Loening Air YachtPosted by Andrew Seybel for your enjoyment. Here is the Granddaddy of the Grumman Duck, the Loening Air Yacht. Leroy Grumman worked for Grover Loening before starting his own company, and Grover was also an early financial backer of the new Grumman Corp. The Grumman team of engineers consulted with Loening on many of Grumman's now famous amphibians. I'll send you a pic of the Grumman Tadpole, a one off they never put into production, a mistake as they watched their competitor, Republic Aviation made a killing on it's SeaBee, many of which are still flying today. But that's not the end of the story. The principal designer of the Tadpole later formed his own company, and you see his Lakecraft, or Laker amphibs world wide. |
